Grandma, Lion, Samurai
Social
Author: Aleix Barrera, Diego Castro & David Rodriguez-Gomez
Facilitated by the teacher
The aim is to physically activate the students before the creative process.
20-30 mins
15 students
Whiteboard
Steps
- The teacher explains the game ‘Grandma, Lion and Samurai’:
- the students should use hand gestures and noises mimicking a grandmother, a lion or a samurai.
- the grandmother points their finger and scolds the samurai
- the samurai raises their blade and beheads the lion
- the lion’s roar scares the grandmother.
- The students form two groups. Each group should select their ‘champion’ who then opposes the other team’s champion.
- Champions are selected in round ‘robin fashion’ so that each group member has their turn. (Gumula, 2020, p. 100).
Reflection
This activity is played like Rock, Paper, Scissors but use Granma, Lion, Samurai instead. The activity could be done using online tools such as breakout rooms in Teams/Zoom.
