Quescussion Exploration
Author: Calum Crosbie
Facilitated by the teacher
The aim is to identify relevant areas of examination for a set challenge.
1 hour
Class
Whiteboard, pens & post-its
Steps
- The teacher writes a statement/question on the whiteboard e.g. “The most important element in this task is that you know your target audience.”
- Students then shout out their own question relating to the initial question/statement.
- They need to wait for others to finish before they can contribute again.
- If a student makes a statement, the rest of the class should shout ‘STATEMENT!’ The comment should then be withdrawn.
- The teacher writes all the questions on the whiteboard.
- Small groups should then be created to review the questions identifying any possible trends in the responses.
- A class discussion should then take place to reach a consensus and create a plan/route map for the challenge.
Reflection
The wide-ranging nature of this activity allows the students to take emotional risks and develop innovative thinking in asking ‘left of field’ questions.
The activity could be done using online tools such as Padlet, virtual whiteboard and breakout rooms in Teams/Zoom.
